<p>The apparatus retards dental decay by applying a coating of a decay retarding agent and ensuring strong adherence to the tooth surface by locally applied ultrasonic vibrations. These are generated by a hand held tool driven by a flexible shaft and fitted with a head (3). This is plastic or non-corroding metal and has a shank (4) fitted over the stem of the tool. The vibrating portion can have one of a range of shapes but is basically a thin blade (5) which can vibrate (6) freely. The conducting fluid is that normally present in the mouth, or can be applied as required.</p> |
