[ALso in Division C1] A water purifying apparatus comprises a settling vessel 1, a filtering vessel 2 providing for throughflow of water from the settling vessel, an annular base 5, an annular skirt 3, and resting on the base an annular settling wall 4. Chemically treated water introduced through pipe 16 flocculates in zone A, passes through perforations 11 in base 5 to sludge settling zone B and thence via ports 17 and 18 through sand bed filter F. Rinsing water from channel 15 may be discharged through perforations 11 (and 12) and radially inwardly towards flocculation zone A through channels in base 5 (13 and 14).
