Prefabricated double layer furnace insulation panels - for rapid installation and relief of differential expansion

Thermal insulation comprising prefabricated assemblies of superimposed slabs of two different insulating material. One layer is of material with sufficient heat resistance to lie directly against the surface of an oven or furnace, the other material may be of lower performance because of the protection afforded by the first layer. The layers are coupled by belts which may also be used to fix the assemblies to the supporting surface. Panels are used for cladding furnaces with insulation comprising e.g. an inner layer heat resistant up to 1232 degrees C (Als ilica fibres) and a (cheaper) outer layer resistant up to 649-1038 degrees C e.g. mineral wools. Preassembly of the two two complementary layers speeds overall oven/insulation erection, compared with traditional procedures of applying the layers independently and successively.
