The shutter consists of a liquid crystal (1) between two glass plates (2,3) uniformly layered. It has an anode (6) and a cathode (7) connected to a circuit (8). Very high shutter speeds may be achieved, owing to lack of inertia of mechanical moving parts. A control impulse from an electronic circuit is used to make the shutter transparent. A LV impulse may be used. The liquid crystal consists of a liquid quartz composition.
