The wooden boxes and wooden pallets are secured on the wooden floor of the railway carriage or lorry by metal straps (3) nailed to the boxes and to the floor. They provide a secure fitting in any position and prevent the load from rolling about. Some flexibility in the straps ensures that the contents are not damaged. The straps are nailed to the underside of the boxes and have protruding ends which provide easy success for the floor nails. The straps do not take up as much space as do conventional wooden blocks and can be re-used many times. With hinge joints near the edges of the boxes they can be folded flat against the sides of the boxes when not in use.
