<p>The heat deformation testing equipment for moulding materials consists of a pre-heated chamber (1) at the centre of which is located a specimen holder (2). A test rod of moulding material in the order of 30 x 8 x 300 mm is placed in the centre of a heating coil (4). The specimen is heated to a given temperature over a known time. The temperature is controlled by a thermostatic probe (6) and is held at about 280 deg.C. A bending force is applied to the rod until it fractures, the required force being registered via an inductive pressure transducer (7). The test procedure is then repeated with an identical sample but using a bending force some 10% under the breaking force so that the plastic and the elastic properties can be investigated.</p> |
