Cutting insert which is used for tensioning in a recess of a clamp holder and is in the form of a prism, whose casing faces form the tension faces the free face, the main cut pressure support face and the back pressure support face for the main blade in the cutting position. Cut-outs extend in the prism axial direction and engage a fixing element which acts on the side faces of the cut-outs facing the main cut pressure support face. Specifically, the plane (21) which bisects the angle (23) between the free face (2) of the main blade (22) and the main cut pressure support face (3) is the plane of symmetry of the prism. The cut-outs (8,9) extend over only one part of the prism length and can accept finger-type fixing elements. The middle length planes (21) of the cut-outs lie in the plane of symmetry (21) or intersect this centrally.
