Form punch on power press for straightening shafts - has tapered load transmission shoulders to compensate shaft variations

The power press (1) is used for straightening crankshafts (6) and has a top tool assembly with spring-loaded pressure plates (7). The two parallel plates (7) have opposing internal tapers (4) through which the bending load is transmitted from the press to the crankshaft. Since the two pressure plates (7) are able to move along the tool axis both away from and towards each other, variations in the crankshaft diameter (D,D1) can be compensated. Thus the bending load applied to the crankshaft is uniform over the whole contact area despite varying shaft diameter.
