Oily oral solns. of unsaturated phospholipids - contg. phospholipid and bile acid salt addition cpds. in mixts. of vegetable oils and partial glycerides

New medicinal prepns. for oral administration based on oily solns. of phospholipids with a high content of essential fatty acids contain the phospholipids in the form of a complex addition cpd. with one or more alkali salts of bile acids, dissolved in a mixt. of vegetable oils and partial glycerides of such oils which are rich in mono- or poly-unsatd. fatty acids. The prepns. are useful in the treatment of e.g. arteriosclerosis, diabetes or hyperlipaemia on account of their ability to reduce elevated blood lipid levels. They can also be used for the treatment and prophylaxis of gall stones. The new oily solns. give better absorption after oral administration than do aq. formulations of phosphatidylcholine. In an example, pure sunflower phosphatidylcholine (100g.) in EtOH (200ml.) is treated with sodium deoxycholate (50g.), stirred 10 mins. at 40-45 degrees, treated with a mixt. of sunflower oil (40g.) and commercial mono-diglyceride mixt. (110g.), freed from EtOH in vacuo, and filled into gelatine capsules.
