Moulded gelatine pieces, partic. containers for the packing of pulverulent or granular medicaments, are manufactured by a process in which stainless steel rods are dipped into a bath contg. an aq. soln of gelatine or an emulsion of such a soln. in an organic liq. An electric current, from the battery, is passed between the rods and the bath and causes a film of gelatine to be deposited by electrophoresis. The rods are removed, the gelatine dried to a water content of 14% and the moulded pieces removed from the rods. Before immersion in the bath the rods are cleaned and may be given a water repellent film. The pieces are of two sizes and for use as a container, one fits into the other. The process is economical, precise and rapid, rejections, when the two halves are fitted together, are reduced.
|
