The recovery is effected by a treatment with a coagulant or desolventiser. In the process, previously applied to protein recovery, a local turbulent zone is created within a vol. of liquid. The polymer dispersion or soln., together with coagulant or desolventiser, is introduced into the local turbulent zone. When introducing a dispersion, an anionic surfactant is added to the turbulent zone, irrespective of whether any typeof surfactant is normally present in dispersion. The local turbulent zone is generated by a stirring paddle, pref. working at paddle tip velocity 450 (450-2000)m/min. Turbulent zone is at tip of the paddle. Treatment of a polychlorobutadiene latex or of solns. of polyisoprene, polybutadiene, natural balata rubber or styrene-butadiene rubber is claimed. Polymer particles obtd are small, non-agglomerated and separate. They are distributed in carrier liquid to form a flowing suspensions. Process can take place continuously. |
