The dispensing canister, e.g. a sugar canister has a measuring lid. The upper part (1) of this lid is provided on its underside with an annular flange (3) which is axially and radially movable in or on the flange (7) provided on the lower part (8). Segmental members (12,14) aremounted in the lower part (8), the cross-sectional surface area of the segments in the axial projection being at least equal to the cross-section of the lid opening (5) which is disposed beneath the chute channel (6). The segments are evenly divided around the perimeter of the lid wherein the interstices (13) are equal to the width of the lid opening (5). By rotating the upper and lower parts relative to each other it is possible to control the extent of the opening, thereby controlling the rate of delivery of the contents.
