The thermal core (1) is supported on an insulating base (2). The core has several vertical recesses (3) in each of which there is an electric heater element (4). Beneath each of these recesses there is a dowel (5) projecting through the insulating base (2) and sticking up slightly above the top of the base into the recesses. The heating element (4) is supported on this dowel which is made of a ceramic material and is thermally insulating and retains its strength at very high temperatures. This provides a support for the heaters which reach a temperature higher than that of the core without the need for an expensive high quality material between the base and the thermal core.
