The plate cooler is for a water cooled compressor. A number of plates (1) are stacked above each other. The plates have an oblong shape with the narrow sides fitted with communicating penetrations (2,3) for the passage of the air discharged from the compressor. On the diagonally opposite long sides further penetrations are provided for the inlet and outlet of the cooling water. The flat surfaces of the adjoining plates are provided with depressions forming communicating flat channels for the cooling water circulation. The sealing of the individual plates is carried out by gaskets (8). The contact surfaces of adjoining plates on the air side have a relief groove (13) and the contact surfaces on the water side similar relief grooves.
