1289377 Jointing by forging; extruding THOMAS & BETTS CORP 31 July 1970 [20 Oct 1969] 37174/70 Headings B3H and B3P [Also in Division H2] A tool for connecting a connector 74 to a pair of conductors 78, 80 comprises a sleeve 40 with a reduced opening 76 and a plunger 58 which is operable to force the connector through the opening and extrude it over the conductors. The connector is loaded into the sleeve through an opening 72. The sleeve may be slotted (116), Fig. 9 (not shown), to receive the conductors. The plunger 58 is connected to a ram 56 which is moved against spring-bias by a handle 44 which may be operated by manual, hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical means. Alternatively the plunger may be driven directly. The sleeve may have a rectangular cross-section, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), or be internally grooved, Fig. 11 (not shown), to shape the sleeve. The internal wall of the connector may have teeth to penetrate the conductor insulation if it is not bored. The plunger is bifurcated and tapered to allow it to enter the opening 70, and may be made of rubber or plastics. |
