<p>1477888 Cryostats; liquefied gas storage containers V S OVCHINNIKOV E I GRIGOROV A L MAGDESIAN A V BERMISHEV V I GORELIKOV A S UTKIN V K FEDOTOV and V Y VOLKOV 7 Nov 1974 48121/74 Headings F4H and F4P The space 3 between inner and outer vessels 1, 2 of a cryostat is heat insulated both by multi-layer insulation 4 and also by a vacuum achieved through a valve 5 secured to the outer casing 2 and having an integral cup-shaped element 6 which extends into the space so that its base abuts the insulation 4. The element is formed with apertures 7 around its lateral surface which allow for exhaustion and ingress of gases through the valve when required without damaging the insulation 4. An absorption pad 12 may be positioned in the space 3 to maintain the required vacuum. The cryostat may be used for storing cryogenic materials, e.g. liquid nitrogen.</p> |
