1478032 Grinding tools; chucks DYNABRADE Inc 31 July 1974 [27 Aug 1973] 33683/74 Headings B3D and B3B A grinding tool, e.g. a pneumatic motor 30 driven hand held power tool, comprises a driving tube 16 for receiving an elongate uniform diameter grinding element 20, or other tools, or a mounting spindle (80) (Fig. 3, not shown) with a working end projecting from a front end 16a thereof, and locking means 22 carried by said front end 16a for releasably clamping said grinding element 20 intermediate its opposite ends. The locking means 22 comprises a nut screwable on the tube 16 to compress a deformable member, e.g. an O- ring or a conical sleeve, and a reducer sleeve 50 which has an end flange engaging the end of the drive tube 16 and against which the deformable member is compressed. A latch device 70 holds the drive tube 16 stationary while the nut 50 is rotated. The tube 16 may be internally coated with vibration clamping material and may be made of a plastics material. The tool casing 12 includes a rear opening 72 through which the rear-end of the grinding element 20 can protrude into a guard member 74. The motor 30 drives the tube 16 by means of a belt 38 and pulleys. |
