Each of the raking teeth of a rakewheel type of haymaking machine consists of an element 10 made entirely from the bead-portion of a pneumatic tyre cut so as to provide a concave surface 12 and a convex surface 22 oppositely disposed longitudinally of the element, the convex surface being the leading surface relative to the direction of rotation of the rakewheel. In making the tines, the bead area is first cut from the tyre and is then cut up, by radial cuts, into a series of segmental pieces which form the tines. Each tine has a flat leading face 18 and a wider rear portion 20 which contains the reinforcing wires 16. The fabric plies 14, which extend throughout the tine, project from the front face 18 at 45 and assist in picking up the crop. The tine is secured to the rake-wheel rim 5 by a clamp 30 formed from a pair of channel-shaped brackets which, are riveted together through the rubber and secured to the rim by bolts 42. The rake-wheel rim is of angular cross-section. |
