<p>1449680 Laminating fabrics with melt adhesives BOSTIK Ltd 12 Sept 1973 [13 Sept 1972] 42811/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] A linear polyamide useful as a heat-softenable fabric adhesive has a Ring and Ball Softening point of 100‹ to 175‹ C. and comprises units corresponding to (a) a lactam having a carboncarbon chain of 6 to 13 C atoms; (b) a diacid having an aliphatic carbon-carbon chain of 11 to 13 C atoms; (c) a second such acid with a chain of 6 to 10 C atoms and (d) stoichiometric amounts (to (b) and (c)) of diamines consisting of at least 70 mol. per cent of a linear aliphatic diamine with a C-C chain of 2 to 13 C atoms and not more than 30 mol. per cent of a diamine having side chains or cyclic groups effective to sterically binder close association of chains of the copolyamide. The sterically hindering diamine may be trimethylhexamethylene, isopherone or menthane diamine or dipiperidyl propane. In examples copolyamides are prepared from (a) caprolactam, (b) adipic or sebacic acid, (c) dodecanedione acid and (d) hexamethylene and trimethylhexamethylene diamines. Textile adhesives.-The copolyamide may be applied as a film, web, net, powder or melt in quanitities of 14 to 40 g./sq. yard to the fabric. Dimples of powdered polymer may be formed in hollows in a shaped rubber mat and sintered on to the surface of a fabric. Specified fabrics are woven knitted or spun textiles of wool and woollen yarns (e.g. worsted), flax, cotton, silk, rayon and polyester.</p> |
