Thermoplastic compositions comprise (1) asphalt, (2) a fluxing oil which is a petroleum distillate boiling in the range 150 to 500‹ F., or kerosene, and (3) 30 to 70 weight per cent of a copolymer of an olefinically unsaturated hydrocarbon with another olefinically unsaturated compound with another olefinically unsaturated compound which provides side groups on the polymer chain. Preferred side groups are polar groups containing oxygen or sulphur, and the copolymer may be of ethylene with propylene, methyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate o preferably vinyl acetate. The composition may also contain a solvent, e.g. hexane, and fillers and pigments, e.g. crushed stone, ground glass sand and sawdust. Exemplified copolymers are of ethylene with vinyl acetate or propylene. |
