Novel compounds of the formula wherein R is a C 1-3 alkyl radical or a cyclohexyl, phenyl or benzyl radical, or metal salts of such compounds, are made either by condensing a hydroxylamine of formula RNHOH (or an acid addition salt thereof) with dithioformic acid (or a metal salt thereof), or else reacting the hydroxylamine RNHOH with a formylating agent to form R-N(OH)-CHO which is then treated with P 2 S 5. The novel compounds are useful as fungicides, disinfectants and as chemotherapeutic agents, displaying, e.g. antimicrobial activity against dermatophytes and against certain microbes parasitic to seaweed.
