A process for the dry storage of lignocellulosic chips etc., for use as chipboard material, comprises mixing the chips which have widely-differing sizes, with powdered fire-protecting agents in a high-speed mixer. The powder adheres to the chips' surface electrostatically, so that no further treatment is required.
