The invention comprises 2,2,5,5-tetra-(tert.-butylperoxy)-hexan prepared by reacting acetonyl acetone with tert.-butyl hydroperoxide in the presence of boric anhydride, cooling to - 10 DEG C. and adding concentrated hydrochloric acid, cooling, filtering and drying. The product is used as a vulcanizing agent for olefine polymers and copolymers.ALSO:A vulcanizing agent for olefine polymers comprises 2,2,5,5 - tetra - (tert.butylperoxy)-hexane (see Division C2). Compositions containing amorphous olefine homopolymers, or a saturated copolymer of ethylene with an a -olefine, or a low saturation terpolymer of ethylene, an a -olefine and a polyene, e.g. propylene and/or butene are described and metal oxides, e.g. magnesium oxide, amines and diphenylguanidine, sulphur, quinonic compounds, vinyl and divinyl monomers, allyl and polyallyl monomers, dimaleimides, furfural and its derivatives increase the vulcanization effectiveness. Fillers include carbon black, silica, clay, talc, and lithopone. Examples describe vulcanizable compositions of ethylene-propylene copolymers, components of which are dibenzoyl-p-quinonedioxime, triallyl cyanurate and difurfuraldazine. |
