[Also in Division H5] An oven for thawing and heating frozen food packages 22 has U-shaped electrical resistance radiation heating elements 12 arranged in horizontal planes in a heat insulated oven chamber 11, horizontal apertured shelves 20 of heat conductive material being arranged between these planes and situated close to the underlying heating elements 12, so that the packages 22 are subjected to radiation from above and to heat conduction from the shelves below. A fan 26 circulates air down spaces at the front and rear of the oven chamber 11 and up through the apertures in the shelves 20. Temperature control is effected by means of a thermostat 34 having an element 35 fitted to the back of the oven and with an auxiliary compensating heating element (37) in a metal sleeve 38 vertically below it. The power supplied to the heating elements 12 may be automatically varied so that the packages 22 are first heated up to about 0‹C. at a relatively high rate and subsequently heated at a slower rate. |
