<p>The screw fastener is for clamping the bearing cap for a crankshaft split bearing in a large i.c. engine, where high dynamic stresses are produced. The tip of the screw has a matching hole tapped (4) to fit the threaded screw section. High tension forces are induced near the socket thread roots, due to the power-driven insertion. At the tip threads (6), the tension is greatest in the socket thread crests. In order to reduce the tension, a recess (8) is cut in the leading end (7) of the screw.
