U-shaped buffer clamp for steam pipe - is laminated steel strips with pinned ends bowed in tension

The buffer clamp for a conduit consists of a U-shaped clip looped over the pipe, and made of laminated steel strips, with large width:thickness ratio. The strip ends are screwed (18) to clamps (12,13), with bores drilled parallel to the conduit and the strip surfaces. Anchor pins fasten the clamps (12,13) to blocks fixed to the wall. The strips are looped round the pipe and anchored in tension. There are at least three layers of equal width fastened together. The clamp is used e.g. for lagged pipes carrying steam from a boiler to a turbine.
