The axle has steered wheels connected by a track rod and supported on the axle by swivel bolt mountings. Control is via a transverse rod with the steering arm pivoting at right angles to the axle. A small or even a negative castor angle can be used with adequate cooling and turning space for the wheels being provided. The control rod (8) has a joint that is fixed to the steering lever (5). The support for the lever (5) is on the projected line from the wheel centre (40) and the intersection (39) between the longitudinal axis of the steering rod (6) and the line joining the swivel bolt centre (36) and the control rod (8). A variant of the design has the steering rod supported at the end of the steering lever (5).
