One embodiment is shown in Fig. 11 in which sector members 82 are moved to a noise suppression position in which the hot gases pass through tubular members 86 mounted on the sector members, also through tubes 84 in a ring member 80 on which the sector members are pivotally mounted. For thrust reversal, the ring member 80 together with the sectors 82 is moved axially downstream of the blow-in air passages, see Fig. 12, the sectors being in their inward, noise suppression position. The ring member 80 engages against the fixed ramp 92. Butterfly valves 94, 96 in the tubes 84, 86 are closed so as to block downstream flow of the hot gases which are thus deflected laterally and forwardly to provide reverse thrust. Movement of the flaps is controlled by an axially movable ring member 106 which is connected to the sectors 82 by linkage 104, 98, the link 104 having a member which engages a cam slot 110 formed in pivotally mounted bracket 100.
