<p>Prepn. of triorganotin derivs. (I) of unsatd. acid of formula (II) R2(COOH)n(R2=n-valent, 2-20C hydrocarbon radical with a C=C bond which is not part of an aromatic ring; n=1 or 2) comprises reacting (II) or its anhydride with a stoichiometric amt. of a triorganotin hydroxide (IIIa) or bis(triorganotin oxide (IIIb). The water formed is removed by contact with a solid, chemically inert dehydrating agent sufficient to remove >=95% of the water. (I) is then sepd. from the dehydrating agent. (I) are used to make (CO)polymer which are toxicants for e.g. antifouling paints. The polymers are also useful as catalysts, antioxidants for rubber and oil additives. distillative removal of water, which can cause overheating and spontaneous polymerization, is avoided. The reaction solvent can now be one which does not form an azeotrope with water or the solvent can be dispersed with. Pref. (IIIa) and (IIIb) are of formulae R'3SnOH and (R'3Sn)2O; R'=1-20C alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl.</p> |
