1366798 Wrapping foodstuffs KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 7 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971 (2)] 56593/72 Heading B8C Wrapped packages containing a foodstuff, e.g. cheese, in single slice form are continuously produced by extruding the foodstuff 1 through a circular orifice 4 into an endless tube 5 of sealable material, compressing the extrudate within the tube by means of rolls 9 to form a flat strip, further compressing the flat strip at spaced lateral zones by means of upstanding walls of moulding frames 12 carried on conveyers 24, compressing the discrete separated lengths of foodstuff so formed by cam-operated plates 14 in the upper moulding frames 12, and sealing and severing the wrapping material to form discrete packages. The foodstuff 1 is fed to the extruder 4 from a hopper 2 by a pump 3. The tube 5 is formed from a web by a sealer 7 positioned so that the inner overlapped edge of material is adjacent one edge of the final package. The extruder 4 is of double walled construction and it and/or the rolls 9 may be heated. The packages are cooled by water sprayed from nozzles 16 and dried by air jets from nozzles 18. Heat sealing and severing may be simultaneously performed by a rotary sealer and cutter 19. Alternatively the heated sealing means may be mounted in the moulding frames 12, or the wrapper material 5 may be pressure-sealable. The severed packages 20 fall down a shoot 21 to be stacked, the stacks being pushed into a conveyer 23 by a pusher 22.
|
