A windscreen washer pump has the pumping member 1 operated on the discharge stroke by a spring 9 and on the suction stroke by subatmos- pheric pressure connected to the bore 17 and applied to the chamber 4 under the control of a valve 18 arranged in a coaxial part of the pump housing by means of which the pump can be mounted in an opening with the valve 18 protruding to form an operating member. As shown the chamber 4 is normally open to atmosphere through the passage 19 which however is closed by the finger operating the valve. In a modification the valve 18 is biased closed by a separate spring lighter than the spring 9. In a modification of this type the valve has an actuating button and includes a section for controlling the connection to atmosphere; the valve also has means to hold it in the depressed position until released by the pumping member at the end of the suction stroke. |
