1,149,658. Practice projectiles. K. DIEHL. 16 June, 1967 [16 July, 1966], No. 27861/67. Heading F3A. Practice projectile which disintegrates into harmless component parts a short distance after firing from a rifled barrel comprises a plastics, e.g., polyester, casing 1 and a core 6 of powdered iron, glass fibre inlays 6 and 7 being arranged in a crisscross pattern in the base 4 and longitudinally orientated in the cylindrical wall to impart impact and compression strength in the longitudinal direction but to impart no stiffening or cohesive effect in the radial direction of the latter. A cruciform weakening is provided in the flattened tip 2. On firing, centrifugal forces tear open the casing in a radial direction, to release the core, which then disintegrates. |
