<p>Thickness variations are detected in sheet approaching equipment and the clearance through the equipment is automatically increased if necessary to avoid damage. As the sheet passes over a support roller, one or more transducers are lifted by any thick section, and the resulting signal is delayed and amplified to adjust downstream equipment as appropriate. It is used to detect variations of a few hundredths to several mm. due to joins, folds or creases in sheet or textile materials and to protect e.g. fabric or rubber coated nip rolls from local pressure damage. The detection is reliable and allows continuous operation.</p> |
