<p>Sheet moulding cpd. prodn. e.g. for automobile body pt. mfr., takes place by (1) preparing a liquid resin soln. of (i) an unsatd. polyester resin or vinyl ester resin with COOH functionality and (ii) an olefinically unsatd. monomer contg. as only functional gps., at least one olefinic double bond which can be polymerised by free radicals, e.g. styrene, (iii) a Gp II metal oxide or hydroxide as coagulating agent and (iv) a free radical-forming initiator; (2) spraying the resin soln. together with fibre extrudates, while simultaneously wetting the fibre extrudates, in at least 2 layers which can be separated from one another onto a surface, and (3) coagulating the sprayed resin-fibre mixt. esp. at room temp. to 66 degrees C, to a workable moulding sheet cpd. which can be shaped and separated into several separate layers. Mixt. of resin and fibres, esp. glass fibres, may be sprayed on a plastic foil.</p> |
