The regulating valve for domestic water taps has a conical closure member (12) movable axially against a correspondingly conical seat (8b). The closure member is supported at one end of an operating stem (3) also supporting a sealing washer (7). When the valve is closed the washer presses against in axially facing part (8a) of the seat. In use the closure member seats first and seating of the washer occurs on continued movement of the stem accommodated by a spring between the closure member and the washer.
