<p>Prepn. of a hyperglycaemic factor which includes a general glycogenolysio and glycosuric elimination, by extracting red bone marrow from flat bones which have had the bony exterior removed. The hyperglycaemic factor does not alter the functions of the blood and heart but has a beneficial effect on them in physiological doses. The factor is heat-stable and is a protein. After use blood sugar levels return to normal. Typically, red bone marrow frozen at low temp. is minced into acetone, supernatant is decanted from boney particles and filtered. The acetone paste is extracted with hot 0.1 m phosphate buffer at pH 6.8 at 65 degrees C for 1 h and the extract is purified by adsorption of impurities on calcium phospate.</p> |
