An installation for the continuous hydrolysis of wood chips, and similar, esp. waste materials, has a presteamer for the chips above a reactor and connected to it by a sluice. The reactor consists of a number of sections, each of which forms a processing zone, arranged one above the other and each inserted into the one below so as to set up an annular cavity through which the hydrolysed prod. can be extracted. At the bottom of the reactor there is a connection for washing water and an arrangement for uniformly drawing off the lignin residues. In the upper zones there are connections for steam and cold acid, and there is further an assembly of coaxial pipes feeding hot acid and hot washing water, extending through the reactor. The pipe carrying the washing fluid opens into the bottom end of the reactor whilst the ends of the pipes carrying acid are located in one or other of the separate zones of the plant. A continuously working plant yielding a uniform prod. mfd. rationally. There is very little encrustation by caramel and the consumption of steam is low.
|
