Furnace for firing graphite pieces esp. electrodes, consists of vertical cells with refractory walls through which hot gases are passed. The hot gases are passed into and through the refractory walls by means of refractory nozzles arranged in the walls at intervals, the porous nozzles having a length equal to the thickness of the walls. The furnace avoids use of a large number of refractory bricks thus obviating repeated removal and replacement of bricks during loading and unloading and consequently reducing stove setter labour.
|
