1476437 Hole saws FRED SEGAL 24 Dec 1974 [13 March 1974] 55708/74 Heading B5L [Also in Division B3] A hole saw assembly 10, Fig. 1, comprises an arbor 20, the body 22 of which has a forward planar face 22a, Fig. 4, with two or more outwardly projecting spring-loaded studs 30, 31, the enlarged heads 30a, 31a of which fit into co-operating slots 45, 46 in the planar base 41 of a cylindrical cutter 40 having teeth 43. Pilot drill 23 is secured on the arbor by screw 24 and the tool is assembled by fixing drill 23 to the arbor, introducing the drill into aperture 44 of the base and the heads 30a, 31a into enlarged portions 45a of the slots, then rotating the cutter 40 relative to the arbor in either direction depending on which way it is to rotate in use. The edges of the slots may have ramps 50-53 so as to compress the springs 26, Figs. 4 and 5. In a second embodiment Figs. 6, 8 and 9, the studs 130, 131 are fixed to the arbor surface 122a and spring- loaded detent drills 150, 151 in the arbor engage in apertures 147, 148 in the cutter base 141. The slots 145, 146 are not ramped. Chip-relieving apertures 42, 42a may be provided in the cutter, see Fig. 1. |
