<p>Appt. is claimed for operating the latch needles of a knitting machine, where a cam activates the latches. The drive cam is so constructed that there is a flattening at about the point where latch opening starts, ranging approximately to the point where the latch is fully opened. Pref. the flattening of the profile of the drive cam between the start and end of the latch opening phase follows a mirrored S-curve in this zone. The flattened zone is profiled into a normal drive cam to change the total profile. The design reduces the stresses imparted to the needle in its control and latch opening, so that higher knitting speeds can be achieved without damaging the needles.</p> |
