1476962 Cleaning electro-photographic drums CANON KK 14 May 1974 [14 May 1973] 21413/74 Heading G2H After transfer of a developed image from a rotating photo-conductive drum 3, residual developer is removed by a scraper 11 and transported to one side of the drum 3 by a screw conveyer 12 and directed by a rotating brush 25 into a groove of a rotatable member 10 which returns it to developing means 2 or to a supply hopper (not shown) for the means 2. The member 10 may be coupled by a pin 16 to the drum 3 so that they are driven at the same speed, or it may be independently driven at a different speed. Adherence of the removed residual developer to the member 10 may be aided by providing the member 10 with a rough surface, by magnets underlying the conveying groove, or by applying an electrostatic charge to the bottom of the groove. The groove may be replaced by a flat surface provided with a channel shaped cover. The screw conveyer 12 may be rigid or resilient according to whether solid or liquid developer is to be recovered.
