A compost tank is made from a number of upright, perforated, ribbed, galvanised steel sheets, the edges of adjacent sheets are coupled together by a vertical line of separate clamps and bent round to form a cylindrical wall. Each clamp is a flat plate, with two opposite lugs each formed through two successive 90 degrees bends to the shape of a hook. These hooks engage in the edge row of perforations of each plate. Pref., the centre of the plate has a hole formed by bending out a flat shelf to act as a spacer between the edges of the galvanised sheets. The top edge may be bent through a right angle to form a flange with a central hole. A vertical bar is passed down through all these holes of a line of clamps to hold them in place. The hooks pref. have chamfered edges facing one another. Standard galvanised sheets of the type used for ventilating doors in basements, garages, etc. can be employed for assembling a compost tank, by connecting them together by the clamps.
|
