The interface provides a two-way data transfer facility between a computer and a variety of peripherals depending upon a programmed interface memory. The computer (GR1) transfers data over a buffer (SF1) to an input/output module (EAE) within the interface (APS). The input/output module contains a multiplexer, comparator, demultiplexer, demultiplexer with latching facility and an output register. Data may either be transmitted to or received from the buffer (SF2) associated with a peripheral (GR2) e.g. printer, eacter etc. Each unit is selected by the output of an instruction decoder contained in a control unit (STE). The decoder operates on the first part of words held in a memory (SPE). The second part contains addresses or information transferred to or from the peripherals.
