Diphenyl (3-trifluoromethylphenyl)methyl chloride (I) is a new cpd. (I) is an intermediate for fungicides. E.g., reaction with 1,2,4-triazole gives diphenyl (3-trifluoromethylphenyl)(1,2,4-triazol-1-yl) methane (DT 1795249). In an example, (I) is prepd. by contacting m -trifluoromethyl-benzotrichloride with FeCl3 in benzene at 10-50 (pref. 20-40) degrees C.
