A hollow body (2), through which a medium, which can be heated up, flows, is arranged in a vessel (1) which is protected against convective heat discharge to the outside. The wall of said hollow body has an outer surface which absorbs solar radiation and is enlarged, with respect to a planar surface, by sheet-like parts which are curved, arranged at an angle with respect to one another or run approximately parallel to one another. Said wall also has an inner surface which discharges heat to the medium. Heat transfer occurs from the outer surface to the inner surface, through the wall material. The hollow body (2) is preferably in the form of a cooling coil or of a heating radiator. The heating means is particularly suitable as a supplementary heating means of a principal heating system.

|
