Leather softening jaws have clamping and feed motions - provided by synchronised eccentric drives with gap adjustment

The device for treating flat, flexible articles comprises two opposite elements between which the leather is periodically gripped. Projections or serrations on one of the elements fit into corresp. indentations or serrations on the opposite element. In the closed position, where the two elements are nearest together, they execute a feed movement, thus advancing the leather strip, while in the position in which they are furthest apart they execute a return movement. Pref. each element is mounted upon a revolving eccentric, both eccentrics being driven by synchronised drives, esp. a common drive. The elements which produce the softening movement also execute the feed movement, so that no separate feed mechanism is required. This constitutes a considerable simplification over previous devices.
