1442646 Electrolytic capacitors MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 6 Dec 1973 [6 Dec 1972 28 Dec 1972 20 Jan 1973 (4)] 56652/73 Heading H1M In the manufacture of an electrolytic capacitor, a composition of spongy tantalum powder and. a water-insoluble additive is compacted and the compacted body anodized without sintering, the additive functioning as a lubricant in that it prevents the composition adhering to a mould wall. Preferably the compacted body incorporates an anode lead wire of tantalum, aluminium or an aluminium alloy. The capacitor is completed in known manner, e.g. by depositing a semiconductor oxide such as manganese dioxide, lead dioxide or chromium trioxide over the anodically formed dielectric layer, followed by graphite and silver layers. The spongy tantalum may be formed by sodium reduction of tantalum aluminium fluoride and suitably has a particle size of 5 to 500 Á. The additive may be Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , MgF 2 , CaF 2 , MoS 2 , BaSO 4 , glass, quartz or fluorine polymers.
