Rifle projectile with hollow shaft - has through bore for passage of bullet and closure valve for gases

A rifle projectile comprises a hollow charge at the forward end and a rear shaft for fitting onto the barrel of the rifle. A coaxial duct leads from the hollow shaft forwards coaxially through the charge to the front end of the projectile and comprises a shut-off device which automatically closes its corss-section when a bullet has passed through it. Pref. the forward end comprises a continuation of the hollow duct. The duct may be open at both ends for a bullet to pass right through, or alternatively the extension portion may have a bullet-retarding and retaining device. The shell can be mounted on the rifle barrel and used in conjunction with live amunition without any risk of explosion. With the automatic closure device, the duct is immediately closed after a bullet has passed through so that the full force of the expansion gases acts upon the projectile. Where the duct is open right through, firing can take place through it.
