Electrical printing unit using an electrode comb which moves over the metallised surface of the printing carrier has a contact roller which presses on the metallised surface. The roller is made of electrically conducting material. The roller is insulated so that no current flows through its bearing and current flow to it is achieved using a sliding brush (27) in contact with it. The brush rests on a section (22) of the roller of smaller dia. The contact roller (21) is preferably made of graphite with a central larger diameter section. The roller is mounted rigidly on a shaft (24) which rotates in insulating bearing sleeves (26).
