Length measuring device has surface of first part cylindrically curved and second part arranged within cylindrical surface. The conducting coatings of capacitance extend over teh surface of the first part. The cylinder axis extends in the direction of measurement. The coating of capacitance on the second part is designed parallel to the cylindrical surface. The first consists of a hollow cylinder made of insulation and the conducting coatings of capacitance extend over the inner surface. The surface over which the conducting coatings of capacitance extend is cylindrical. The second part consists of a metal cylinder.
